She is also a faculty member at the John s Hopkins Center for Clinical Global Health Education. Her primary researc h interests include the immune and metabolic changes of pregnancy and thei r impact on the pathogenesis of infectious diseases such as tuberculosis ( TB). She has been conducting NIH-funded research in Pune\, India since 201 0\, leading the PRACHITi study on the impact of stage of pregnancy and HI V on the immune response to M. tuberculosis\, an R21 on the impact of HIV on placental immunology\, and most recently the PRAGaTHI study on the inte rsection of HIV\, TB and gestational diabetes. An active member of the Int ernational Maternal\, Pediatric\, and Adolescent AIDS Clinical Trials netw ork (IMPAACT)\, Dr. Mathad chaired the only study of the safety\, tolerabi lity and pharmacokinetics of the 3-month isoniazid/rifapentine regimen for latent TB treatment in pregnant and postpartum women (IMPAACT 2001) and w ill chair an upcoming trial on 1HP and 3HP in pregnant people living with HIV in South Africa.\n \nIn addition to her innovative research\, Dr. Math ad also devotes considerable time to mentoring students\, residents\, and fellows interested in global health\, both in New York and India.
