Deepak Kaushal, Ph.D., is a Professor in the Southwest National Primate Research Center (SNPRC) at Texas Biomedical Research Institute (Texas Biomed). The SNPRC is one of the seven nationally funded primate research centers. Between 2018-2023, Dr. Kaushal oversaw the SNPRC operations, a ~ $40 million NIH-funded national resource for primate research, as its Director. During this time, the SNPRC added 25% more faculty, 75% more extramural funding, and 25% more research NHP resources.  At this time, Dr. Kaushal serves as the Senior Advisor to the current SNPRC Director.  Dr. Kaushal is principal investigator on multiple NIH-funded grants and is co-investigator of several other NIH grants. He is recognized for having developed the macaque model of TB using the natural inhalation route of infection and a model of Mtb/HIV co-infection.
